This morning on IHTSB we pay tribute to one of the major figures in popular music and jazz, Ella Fitzgerald. Ella Fitzgerald had one of the loveliest voices in popular music and jazz. With the rich, warm quality of her voice, and her amazing diction and versatility, Ella was at home across a range of styles from ballads to jazz to swing. She had a long and extraordinary career, becoming regarded as the pre-eminent female jazz artist of her era. Today we hear selections from across her career, including her early work, recordings with other singers and from her extensive collection of songbooks featuring the work of the great songwriters.
