2022 06 IHTSB June 05 Benny Goodman, Bobby Darin, Fats Waller…

IHTSB June 05 2022
Today we celebrate music from the late 1930s through to the early 1960s. Ou earliest recordings are from 1936: the Benny Goodman orchestra with “Bugle Call Rag” and Billie Holiday with a jazz group led by pianist Teddy Wilson and the song “These Foolish Things. Our latest recordings is by Bobby Darin, from an album he made with arranger and conductor Billy May of the Oscar winning song, “Call Me Irresponsible”. In between we enjoy recordings from several singers, including Buddy Clark and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as from Tony Martin, who brings us Jerome Kern’s beautiful composition, “Make Believe”. And we round out the show with the irrepressible Fats Waller and friends who join us with Fats’ famous composition, “Honeysuckle Rose”.
