2022 03 IHTSB March 20 Sarah Vaughan, Fletcher Henderson, Bobby Hackett…

Today we celebrate the first day of Spring, with songs recorded from the 1930s to the 1960s. We begin with the trumpet of Bobby Hackett and “Spring, Beautiful Spring”. Sarah Vaughan and William Tabbert bring us songs from two musicals,”South Pacific” and “State Fair”, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra join us with his arrangement of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Spring Song”, and we listen too to some fine British orchestras, including those led by Jack Hylton and Ray noble with Al Bowlly. From 1962 we hear a lovely piece recorded by Robert Farnon and Frank Sinatra, “We’ll Gather Lilacs in the Spring”. And we conclude with a delightful version from Peggy Lee of the Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer composition “Come Rain or Come Shine”. Enjoy our first day of Spring!
