On today’s show we feature more of the wonderful recordings made in the 1940s and 1950s for the independent jazz labels that were flourishing at the time. Labels like Commodore, Keynote Blue Note produced some of the finest jazz of the era, in sessions where artists who were in town could gather and create some jazz history. All of them were superb performers, and their interpretations of the classic jazz standards and often their own compositions are quite literally timeless. We can listen to them over and over again, alway enjoyable and more often than not revealing to us yet another facet of the artists’ wonderful work.
