2018 04 April 08 – Stanley Turrentine

A very special edition of In Transition celebrating sax legend Stanley Turrentine. This is one of the most enjoyable episodes I have ever done.

Stanley Turentine was one of the most impressive jazz tenor sax players. He could be smooth and empathetic during a ballad and hot and steamy during an up tempo arrangement. One aspect overlooked by many is that he was influencial in smooth jazz that would gain popularity years later. His recordings for the CTI label are great examples of this. The arrangements were carefully crafted yet the music flowed and was always interesting.
